A few days ago I saw a program on TV about men suffering from “girly” breasts. It made me a little curious. I have much larger boobs than normal. But the question remains. Are my breasts because I am overweight, or is it because I suffer from this thing that all men fear, and some even have surgery, known as gynoplasty, to get rid of it?
I had to go and find out more about this condition, not only because I had to put my mind at ease, but also to learn more about the condition.
What is Gyneclasty? The term comes from the Greek words gyne meaning “woman” and mastos meaning “chest”. In practical terms, this means abnormally large breasts in men.
There are several potential causes:
oh puberty
or steroid abuse (bitch tits)
or obesity
or use of marijuana (this is in doubt)
or tumors
or genetic disorders
or chronic liver disease
or side effects of many medications
or castration
or Klinefelter syndrome
or Gilbert’s syndrome
aging
The remedy
According to gynecomastia.org, if it’s as a result of obesity, losing weight can alter the condition, but for many it won’t eliminate it. They say that for all other causes, surgery is the only known physical remedy.
Gynoplasty is apparently the fastest growing male surgical procedure in Australia. The $8,000 operation takes two hours and involves the removal of excess glans breast tissue from the nipple, as well as liposuction.
“Men are ashamed of having man boobs, so going to the beach or even wearing a T-shirt becomes a major problem for them,” said Dr. Jeremy Hunt, a spokesman for the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
allsaintsclinic.org says, “Gynecomastia can appear in two forms, genuine or ‘real’ and similar or ‘pseudo’. In true gynecomastia there is actual breast tissue present. In pseudo gynecomastia there is no such breast tissue and the appearance to an accumulation of fat, part of a general tendency to be overweight. In this condition, weight control and exercise reduce the problem. In reality Gynecomastia such efforts are fruitless.”
I think I have now come to a conclusion. I have Pseudo Gynecomastia. So I’ll just have to do a few exercises and lose some body fat to improve my appearance. What a relief this is for me, because I would never have been able to afford the surgery.
Please take a look at the websites mentioned in this article. They have very useful information. I have also created my own “boobs” related website, which is there for those of you who don’t mind having larger than normal man boobs and can laugh about it. You will find this in [http://www.ratemymoobs.co.uk] . You can upload your own photos and have other users rate and comment on them
