That day I learned a great thing about home doctors and that’s how it started

Twenty years ago, when I was just an 8-year-old girl whose only motivation in life was to finish homework and play with friends for hours, I learned a great lesson: that doctors have a big role in our lives and when the time comes. They will do anything to save a life.
Today, I am a ‘home doctor’ and I am very proud of who I am and what I do.

Now, this is how it started:

Like any other day, I finished my homework and ran to play, the only thing that looked different today was that my mom didn’t feel good about it, she looked exhausted and uncomfortable. But these were not the things that she could really understand, and since she couldn’t come to the park with me, I decided to play at home, although that is very different from me.

In about another half hour, Mom decided to just sit on the couch in the room and watch me play; in no time she collapsed – I heard the sound and ran to her. Although I couldn’t get her up, I understood that a little water would make a difference, which didn’t happen that day. I remember crying before I called my dad and he immediately called home doctor services before I even got home (and I have to admit it was a great decision).

The doctors came home – they checked and studied her condition, gave her an injection, wrote down her prescription and asked me to stop crying because mom would be fine. Mom had a heart attack and if I hadn’t called Dad and he hadn’t called the house doctors, things could have just gotten out of hand.

Today, my mother turned 47 years old and we celebrated her birthday, very animated.

… that day I learned a lot about home doctors, and that’s how it all started.

20 years and a few months later I practice medicine and work as a home doctor in my town. Now that’s how it made all the difference in life and I think home doctors are the brightest people out there. You want to know why? Read more:

1. They arrive well on time at the destination

2. Any immediate assistance is always available and provided.

3. They will be available even when your GP in question is not available

4. Will be available to treat you for acute illnesses and chronic illnesses.

5. Some of the home care doctors even offer mass billing services.

In all these years of being the visiting doctor in my area, the only thing that I ensure is that the best and fastest service reaches the patients and that I am available for service almost immediately.

The service part is what I admire most about my profession and whoever I am today, I only look back 20 years and realize how that incident helped shape not only a career but a life.
