The Sedona Method: Five Easy Steps

The Sedona Method was created by Lester Levenson as a method to release underlying emotional stress and experience the joy and abundance in life for which we are destined. His student Hale Dwoskin took over after Blank’s death and has expanded his program to reach the masses. You can get more details on this method by picking up The Sedona Method book and then continue on to some additional courses they offer.

the three experiences

The Sedona Method recognizes that we experience emotions in one of three ways: through repression, expression, or release. The first two are how we almost always experience emotions, and they are also detrimental to our well-being in many cases, unfortunately for us! First, we experience a feeling that we don’t think we should feel, or we are instructed by society that it is wrong to show it. Therefore, we bury the feeling. And we continue this process of burying feelings until we “lock up” or go numb emotionally. Not good.

Second, we express emotions. In this case, we are talking more about an explosion of emotion, in a rather sick way: an outburst of anger or frustration, etc. This feels better than removal, to be sure, but it can be just as damaging.

Third, it is releasing. In this case, we feel an emotion, let it “flow” through us and release it without needing to bury it or express it in some unnecessary and useless way. It is a mature recognition of our inner state, without the need to treat it artificially mentally. We simply feel and release. Almost as if we were breathing the emotion. The amazing thing is that once we start doing this process for a while, it becomes quite natural and then eventually it becomes the habitual way we behave and experience. The side effects are increased joy, abundance, much less stress, and the ability to deal very effectively with any situation.

Just let it go”

How many times have we heard that in our lives? But how many times have we really done it? When we do, it’s magical. But habit and conditioning work against us in this regard. Here’s how to start applying this in your life consciously. Once you do this consciously for a while, you will begin to do it automatically.

1. Focus on an issue you want to feel better about that is a concern in your life right now, and simply allow yourself to feel whatever it is you’re feeling about it. Welcome the feeling and feel it. This can be a big problem, or a very small one.

2. Ask yourself 1 of 3 questions: Could you let go of this feeling? Could I allow this feeling to be here? Could you welcome this feeling? Simply respond with a minimum of thought. The point is to point you to the experience and the possibility of letting go.

3. No matter what question you used in Step 2, then ask “Would you?” If your answer is No, then ask yourself “Would I rather continue to have this feeling or would I rather be free?”

4. Then ask, “When?” This is a prompt to drop now if you are willing. You may find a release of emotion at this time. This helps you realize that holding on to a feeling is really a choice you are making and one that you can choose to let go of at any time.

5. Repeat these steps for any emotion as many times as necessary until you feel free of it. You will feel more and more release and eventually release will become an immediate and natural process for you.

Although this process seems simple at first glance, magic comes with continued contemplation and practice. Of course, there is much more to the Method, but applying these 5 steps is a great start to feeling the joy in life that you were meant to feel.
