What do funeral directors wear?

It’s probably something most of us don’t think about. Many of us have seen funeral directors and they always look so smart and professional. However, it is rare that we take a moment to really consider what they are wearing and the varieties of clothing available to them. While most of the clothing appears similar or identical, it can be quite different depending on the Undertaker or the Crematorium.

Most funeral or crematory directors will wear the same outfit, typically a black jacket and vest and striped pants or a black jacket and vest and black pants. These items are the foundation of what funeral directors will use in the day-to-day running of their business.

The classic black jacket is a 55% polyester and 45% wool worsted blend that makes it very durable. Single breasted with side slits and 4 inside pockets. The vest comes from the same fabric so an exact match with your jacket is guaranteed, the vest is single-breasted with a 5-button closure and 4 outer pockets. You can choose to have the matching pants to make it a 3 piece black suit with the polywool blend making it a fabulous machine washable pant or you can go for the striped pant which would break the simplicity of a full black suit but the decision is yours.

The striped pant is again a polywool blend and is also half lined to the knee which is great for those cold winter days but also reduces friction on the upper legs.

If you want to have something a little different, why not try the pure new wool herringbone range? Available in a jacket, pants and waistcoat, this 3-piece suit is very elegant. Also in this fabric there is the option of a matching tailcoat, again with the herringbone pattern that runs through it.

Top hats are becoming increasingly popular with funeral directors looking for a little more “uniform.” The top hat with its soft brim is a very comfortable top hat to wear as we all know there is nothing worse than taking off a hat and having a big red line around your forehead.

These items are readily available from Funeral Director Outfitters stock and are usually with the customer within 3-4 business days.

The range of clothing they offer starts with plain white shirts and goes all the way to the Croyden Cashmere Wool Blend Coat which is a fabulous coat to wear and looks good. If you want to buy a very strong raincoat then the Whipcord raincoat is for you, this is a very strong coat. The traditional polyester/wool blend whip cord coat makes this a firm favorite among all of our funeral directors.

It is very important that the funeral director appears professional and intelligent as he is offering his services at a very sensitive time. The use of quality matching funeral clothing is a must for all companies that offer these services.
