At the end of March, I ended up going to Stockholm, Sweden for a few days and this was a place I had never been before. As a result of this, he wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
Having said that, what I did know is that it was going to be quite cold and it was supposed to be expensive up there. One of the reasons I went there was to see a friend of mine named Peter.
On the floor
Once I got there I came to see how cold it really was, but what made it easier to ride was that it wasn’t very windy. I hadn’t slept the night before as the flight was very early and that made me feel like a zombie when I got there.
Part of me wanted to explore the city and part of me wanted to sleep, but I knew that if I didn’t go to bed early I would be tired for the rest of the trip. So, I ended up going to bed early and waking up early the next day.
a moment of inspiration
When I was walking around the city the next day, I thought it would be a good idea for me to do some filming. I thought I might share where I’ve been with my friends and people who see my work online.
After this I ended up touring the houses of parliament, the palace and the old town amongst other things. I had arranged to meet my friend towards the end of the day, so I was looking forward to seeing him again after so many years.
a different culture
While I was at my friends house, his wife talked about some of the things that are different in Sweden. First of all, she said that people generally don’t like eye contact, and looking at people can be seen as rude.
In addition to this, he said that the people there are more introverted and that it was very different from the United States in that sense. When I went food shopping with Peter, the prices didn’t seem much different to what things cost in a supermarket in England.
Pros and cons
One thing that Sweden does have is high-quality drinking water, and this is partly due to the fact that there are so many lakes there. The downside is that the income tax is very high, but I guess a lot of people think they get a lot in return.
At the end of my time there, I met a woman who had some interesting things to say about what dating in Sweden is like. She said that women were the ones being chased in bars or clubs, not men.
My thoughts
I’m not sure how true this is as I didn’t speak to anyone else about this and I didn’t go out at night while there. A lot of the women seemed to be quite masculine, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was something that happened in these types of settings.
As for what was said about eye contact, I’d say it was no different than it is in England. Some people are comfortable with eye contact, while others are not comfortable with it.
a nice trip
Overall I had a good time there and would be happy to go back there as soon as it gets a bit warm. Much has been said about crime in Sweden, but Stockholm seemed fine.
If you like old buildings, boat trips, knowing what happened in the past and don’t mind the cold, there is a chance that you will enjoy Stockholm.
